Dear Polar Explorer,

With this booklet we wish you a warm welcome to one of the most extraordinary
places on our planet: Svalbard.

This is an introduction to some of Svalbard’s many treasures: Its interesting history,
remarkable wildlife, abundant birdlife and the often surprisingly colourful flora.

We wish you a magnificent journey in the Arctic, and we believe that it will not be long
before you catch the harmless “polar bug”. Its single but unmistakable symptom is
a constant desire to return to the overwhelming Polar Regions.
