Saarijärvi – Experiences, Vitality and
Anniversary Events

In 2026, Saarijärvi celebrates its anniversary year. It marks 160 years since the
municipality was founded and 40 years since Saarijärvi became a town. There will
be plenty happening throughout the year!
The Street Crawling World Championships return in June as part of a vibrant city-
wide festival filling the town centre. Traditional events will also continue on an even
grander scale, including the Kirmot Music Festival as well as numerous other cultural
and music events. Come and join the celebrations!
Among the must-visit cultural and museum attractions are the Saarijärvi Museum,
the Stone Age Village, Art Gallery Ahku, Juhola – home of the Tapper family, and
Atelier Leijonatorni. Be sure to explore the cultural trail that runs through the town
centre as well.
For families, the undisputed favourite is Puuhapuisto Veijari. True to its name, it is an
activity park where you can play and enjoy the fresh outdoor air while discovering
a delightful variety of animals. Veijari offers great fun for all ages – guaranteed!
For those seeking peace and quiet in nature, Saarijärvi offers several unique natural
destinations with routes and hiking opportunities suitable for both families and
more experienced outdoor enthusiasts. The most popular sites include Pyhä-Häkki
National Park, Haikankärki, the dramatic Julmat Lammit and Kulhanvuori.
