ÄinPäin (”Upside down”) Day
In Salla’s endless summer light, the whole village goes
a little äinpäin – meaning upside down! Shops stay open
late, and the streets are filled with fun competitions,
raffles, special offers, karaoke, sausages, and pancakes.

A cherished traditional celebration since 1981 that
brings together current, former, and future Sallans,
travelers, and friends.
This year’s theme: RETURNING HOME.
Nothing Happens Week
October 4–12, 2025
By October, the autumn colors have packed their bags and left,
and the weather has taken a turn for the worse. It’s not autumn
anymore, but it sure as hell isn’t winter either. The scenery turns
grayscale, the skies grow dim, and rain falls just often enough to
dampen any lingering enthusiasm. After the endless daylight of
summer and the riot of autumn colors, energy levels crash and
everything goes eerily quiet—like nature itself is bracing for the
razzle of winter and Christmas. Which means it’s the perfect time
to do absolutely nothing. No schedules. No events. No places
open. Just you, your thoughts, and the sweet, sweet void. This
theme fits the mood like a wet sock in October.
Other events
July 18 Nature Restoration Volunteering Day. Join us in taking
care of our pristine nature! We’ll work together on restoration
actions at the Salla Give Back to Local Nature campaign site.
Shared transport and campfire snacks are provided for volunteers.

Every Tuesday at 12 noon in July, a workshop for
children is held at Sallan Rajakievari. Participation is free of
charge. Museum of War and Reconstruction
August 2–3 Fell Orienteering. Navigate your way through the
Ruuhitunturi fell area in this orienteering event organized by
Sallan Karhut sports club.
August 9 Harvest Festival at Sallatunturin Tuvat

August 10 Nature Excursion – Salla Give Back to Local
Nature Campaign. Visit the restoration site of the Salla

August 29, 7–9 PM Salla’s Venetian Festival. Held at
Rajakievari’s outdoor stage near the Museum of War and
Reconstruction.
In Early September the museum will host its traditional

As the reindeer rutting season approaches and
emotions run high, Salla celebrates both the rykimä
– the dramatic and vocal reindeer mating season
– and the arrival of vibrant autumn colors.

∙ Rykimä Pride Hike ∙
Social responsibility is a key part of Salla’s commit-
ment to sustainable tourism. That’s why this au-
tumn, we proudly launch the very first traditional Ry-
kimä Pride Hike! The hike starts from the fell center,
continues along Ämminpolku trail, and ends at Pap-
ana Pupi yard. We’ll share experiences, take a group
photo, and award prizes for best outfit and most
fabulous sign or flag. Distance: approx. 3 km.
