the chance to participate. An INNo Workshop for residents with an immigrant background
was arranged at MoniNet Multicultural Centre on 26 November 2012. A total of 25 adults
with immigrant background representing various cultures participated in the planning
workshop.

The „Citizens‟ Square‟ (Kansalaistori) was open to all during office hours over the period of
11 – 22 February 2013 in the lower lobby of Rovaniemi‟s City Hall. In addition to the work-
shops and Citizens‟ Square, the opportunity to take part in the discussion on multicultural-
ism was provided in the “POrukoitten ROvaniemi (PORO)” Facebook community and on
the Otakanta.fi website.
On the basis of occasions providing a hearing that have been arranged in various ways,
pivotal development ideas which the City of Rovaniemi‟s Wellness Group has still been
working on from one target area to another have been raised.The Integration Programme
is divided into general objectives and developmental objects in various task areas / or-
ganizations that are binding on the city as a whole (section 3.3 and Chapter 4; Appendices
1–4).

3.3 General objectives of Rovaniemi’s Integration Programme

1. The strengthening of a positive, multi-valued atmosphere will occur through
the determined support of the managers of the City of Rovaniemi
The City emphasizes the positive impact of immigrants on the city as well as its develop-
ment, and commits itself to comprehensively act for the success of integration.
The City shall show appreciation for the work performed by various actors and shall on its
part bring working communities, city inhabitants with immigrant backgrounds or persons in
general who have promoted and advanced the integration of immigrants to the attention of
the public.
The city shall promote good ethnic relations and cross-cultural cooperation with various op-
erational formats. Immigrants shall be trained as network consultants, and the methods of
cultural training shall be applied for benefit in all sectors.
The city commits itself to anti-racism efforts and shall encourage other actors to commit
themselves to the same.
