Native-born foreign nationals in Rovaniemi total 1,724. About 400 come from the area of
the European Union, 400 from elsewhere in Europe, fewer than 200 from Africa, 20 from
the United States and 700 from Asia and Oceania. (Statistics Finland, 31 Dec. 2011)
An estimated 500 are refugees in background who have resided at the Reception Centre
before obtaining a residence permit, are quota refugees, or have arrived via family reunifi-
cation.
Of those who speak foreign languages, over 52% are aged 15–34. The main priority in the
years to come with regard to integration will be youth. Rovaniemi needs the right educa-
tional trends and jobs for young people. This work shall be promoted by collecting services
for children and youth together and by advancing their impact.
