Sauli Miettunen
Luonnon osa / Part of nature

The Part of nature sculpture is formed from concrete and stones onto a frame welded from iron.
The concrete has been tinted, and the rocks have been chosen to fit the form of a reindeer. The
antlers have been welded from rustproof iron, and they are huge like a tree on top of rock. The
posture of the reindeer refers, with its bow legs and all, to a slightly stupefied-looking creature
standing still in front of a car that does not understand the threat that cars pose. The dimensions
of the Part of nature artwork are, including the antlers, 300x200x150 cm.

Sauli Miettunen
Vasa-reliefi, Calf relief

The Calf relief has been welded from rustproof reinforcing steel bars of different diameters.
The relief is formed out of two superposed line drawn reindeer calves. Due to the movement
of the two superposed structures, the artwork seems to change its form. Miettunen sums up
his piece:“Nature and all is one, tree, rocks and animals”. The dimensions of the Calf relief are
160x180x15 cm.

merited as a painter. His sculptures are close to nature in form language and in material. Miettunen also
uses domestic appliances and old objects as materials in his art. The pieces have echoes and references to
nature, animal vertebrae, trees and gardens, but above all the Miettunen’s sculptures discuss man’s visit
and trace in nature. (Source: Sauli Miettunen’s website)
